John Moore's Prize (17th April 2018)

Unfortunately did not make the final cut this year but glad to be considered in the second round. These prizes are really distracting in the sequence of art-making. Guess I'll have to work at it for a while to come before it loses its adverse affect. On a more positive

Unfortunately did not make the final cut this year but glad to be considered in the second round. These prizes are really distracting in the sequence of art-making. Guess I'll have to work at it for a while to come before it loses its adverse affect. On a more positive note, I have been working quite feverishly on a new body of paintings. I have eight new 450x600mm paintings, all in portrait format and all portraits. I have experimented with applying damar varnish to the primed MDF then painting in impasto over half dried varnish. Drying is interesting as thick paint is cracking to leave traces of underpainting. Will update as works dry but curious about this as a technique.
